Tiny Talk Tuesday

While preparing lunch yesterday, Lexy came to me crying. Me: What's wrong? Lexy: (With tear filled eyes and quivering lips) I want Bean (her nickname for her brother) to stay a baby forever. Me: Well, everyone has to grow up. That's the way God made us. Lexy: I want him to stay a baby so I can play little things with him and hold him.......and....he's just so cute. This conversation continued on for a while. I put lunch on the table. We said a prayer and then Lexy ran off. She was gone for several minutes. When she returned... Lexy: I prayed that God would just let us all stay the same size forever. Me: If we all stay the same size forever, you and Josiah won't get to do all the fun things that you learn as you get older. Sometimes Mommy gets sad when I see how fast you both are growing up, but it makes me happy to see you learning new things. Don't you want to learn to ride a bike without training wheels and do the monkey bars? And, Don't you want help Josiah learn all the things that you already know. Lexy: (quiet and thinking) Another conversation while at the lake... We were roasting marshmallows around the fire when Josiah noticed some algae on one of the benches (a small section of algae he wouldn't of had to sit on). He started crying and throwing a fit about not wanting to sit on that bench. Lexy: Look Bean, I'll sit on the algae. It won't hurt me.

Lexy: Uhh, Siah, people can't be monkeys. Why don't you just be a doctor.

Tiny Talk Tuesday

I've been trying to do a better job of recording the cute things that my kids say. It is so fun to look back and read them later on. I've just discovered Tiny Talk Tuesday and thought this would be a perfect motivation for me to keep recording these. Here are a few things my kids said over the weekend...

While driving to the fireworks, a frog hopped in front of our car....

Me: Lexy, why do you think that frog is out this late at night?

Lexy: Perhaps he's nocturnal.

I love her use of the word "perhaps" lately. Also, it is my understanding that not all species of frogs are nocturnal, and I am not sure what time of frog hopped in front of us. But, I was pleased that she remembered "nocturnal." It's been a while since we've talked about nocturnal animals.

While watching the fireworks...

Alex: What color was that firework?

Josiah: Oscar (referring to a green firework).

Alex continued asking Josiah the color of the fireworks, and Josiah continued answering by using the names of Sesame Street characters. A red firework was Elmo and blue was Cookie Monster.

Kid Quotes: Josiah Edition

This is my first Josiah quote!

While riding home from church last night, Lexy and Josiah were playing "baby and mommy" in the car. Lexy went on and on telling Josiah that he needed to burp. "Go ahead, baby, you really need to burp. You can burp now, baby....Do you have to burp..., etc, etc..." This went on and on for about five minutes with Josiah paying very little attention to her. Then, probably out of annoyance, Josiah spoke in a cute little voice:

Burp.

Not a real burp, but the actual word, "burp." I know this is one of those stories, that you just had to be there for it to be funny. So, I'm mainly recording this so I won't forget it. Alex, Lexy, and I all bursted out in laughter, which he loved. So, the rest of the way home, Lexy continued to tell him to burp, and he would say "burp" in different voices.

Thoughts on Chicken Bones, Weight, and Heaven

I'm trying to do a better job at recording the cute things that my kids say. So, here are a few more...

During our afternoon quiet time today, Lexy came to me with tears in her eyes and with a shaky voice, "Mommy, why didn't you let me push the blood cells out of the chicken bone?" Need I say more???

Tonight during our bedtime routine, Lexy announced, "I weigh 351 pounces."

And on a more serious note, Lexy has many questions about heaven, the Bible, and Jesus. Many of her questions go in somewhat the same way. I love to watch her as she is trying to take it all in. Here is how our conversation went this afternoon (as best as I can remember it).

While cleaning the table with water and vinegar, she asked, "Why did Jesus drink vinegar."

Me: Remember, they offered Jesus vinegar to drink when he was on the cross.

Lexy: Why did Jesus come down from heaven?

Me: God sent Jesus to Earth because He loves us so much. He sent Jesus to show us how to live and to die for our sins...the bad things that we do. Jesus took our punishment for us.

Lexy: What is punishment?

Me: Punishment is like when you do something that you know you're not supposed to do and I send you to timeout. That is a punishment. Jesus took our punishment for our sins, because He wants us to live with Him forever in Heaven. If we have sin in our hearts, we can't go to Heaven.

Lexy: Will everyone in the whole world go to heaven?

Me: No, only the people that ask Jesus to forgive them of their sins, love Him, and make Him their Lord. That's why Jesus told us in the Bible to tell people about Him so that they can come to Heaven to. We need to tell everyone we can about Jesus.

Lexy: When Jesus blows the trumpet, we won't be able to hear it.

Me: Actually, an angel will blow the trumpet, and it will be loud enough for us to hear.

Lexy: When will we come home?

Me: Heaven will be our new home. We will live there forever.

Lexy: Jesus will be our family.

Me: Yes

Lexy: I think Heaven has carpet and jewelry on the roads.

After this, the conversation shifted to other things. I love that she is so curious about the things of God. She loves to pray. Since Easter, she has started thanking Jesus for dying on the cross for us in nearly every prayer that she prays. It is so sweet to see her heart so tender.

Kid Quotes of the Week

Everyone always tells me that I need to write down the cute and funny things that my kids say so that I won't forget them. I've done this sporadically on pieces of paper stuck here and there, but most of those cute sayings have been lost or forgotten. It makes sense, now, to use this blog as a place for all of these sayings. Better late than never. Most of the sayings for now will come from Lexy, but I'm sure Josiah will have some to add soon.

Here are some Lexy Quotes of the Week:

1. When coloring a cross for an Easter activity she said, "I don't want to draw Jesus on the cross, because I'm going to give this to Him when we go to Heaven on Tuesday."

2. While in a very grateful mood at dinner one night she said, "Thank you SO much for my corn Mommy. It tastes just like CORN!" I wasn't sure how to take this. Apparently, the corn I fix does not always taste like corn???

3. A precious prayer before bed: "Jesus, Thank you for dying on the cross for us because you love us. That was a really nice thing to do."
