Preschool Corner - K is for King

Well, hopefully I'm back on track with posting my weekly updates...we'll see. Letter K week has been a lot of fun. Most of the ideas that I've used this week have come from the Preschool Corner. As soon as I figure out how to add links to the individual sites, I will. I am continuing to use the Bible Curriculum from Hubbard's Cupboard. It goes along with our Letter each week.

Memory Verse/Bible: We were doing a verse a week; however a few of the verses have taken us a couple of weeks to memorize well. Lexy has now memorized Proverbs 3:5-6 and we will be moving on to another verse next week. At least once a week, we try to review all previous memory verses.

Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him and He will make your paths straight. Proverbs 3:5-6

Our Bible story this week was Daniel in the Lion's Den. We read it at breakfast from different children's Bibles and devotionals. We also did it at "Snack/Bible Time" before bed with Daddy. This weekend we will act it out with Daddy.

Alphabet/phonics:

Our letter song this week added the k sound and "David didn't bow to the king." For our letter art, we put on lipstick and made kissing prints on the k. Josiah was intrigued by this and wanted to try. At least he didn't use bright red.

Lexy also cut and pasted the Letter K pictures from Homeschool Creations. She loves to cut and paste.

We also made Ks out of toothpicks.

We worked on phonics and handwriting in her preK workbooks. I have no pictures to show for it.

Sensory: Lots of sensory activities took place this week.

We made Koolaid Playdough. We saved one of the koolaid packets to drink...very rare in our house!

Only when I get very brave, I get out the flour. My kids love it! This week I also gave them some extra ingredients...things that I was running low on and couldn't use.

Math:

Lexy had a lot of fun with Sticker Math.

We also worked on Math skills in her workbooks.

Nursery Rhyme Book: I found this idea on Preschool Corner and decided to make our own since Lexy enjoys Nursery Rhymes so much. Our first rhyme was "Three Little Kittens."

We also acted out the story. They each had their own foam mittens that they soiled and washed. Josiah ended up throwing the kittens in the tub too. This made Lexy upset thinking that he ruined her kittys.

Fine Motor: We worked on pencil grip. I'll do a separate post about this soon. We also put toothpicks into small holes. This was easy for Lexy but more difficult for Josiah.

Other:

Gross Motor: gymnastics

Science: Read lots of books about Kangaroos

Filled shoe box for Operation Christmas Child

We are still planning on flying kites this weekend if we get a day that is nice and windy.

Art: Kite Page from Nuudles...until they could no longer share the nuudles

Library story time started back up this week. Our library has great programs for toddlers/preschoolers and homeschoolers. Here are some pictures.
